Anonymous to Greta Thunberg: carbon tax can make more money for fossil fuel companies

The global internet activist group, Anonymous, writes an open letter to environmental activist teenager, Greta Thunberg, warning her that the policies that she is lobbying could also benefit fossil fuel companies to earn them more money and could inflict more harms to the people on the ground as well as the environment.

“For example, heavy carbon taxes will not have much of an effect on the fossil fuel industry, aside from making their cost of doing business a little bit higher,” the open letter penned by a certain David Cohen published in the website ran by Anonymous reads.

The activist organization, which is known for protesting online through hacking and other forms of online disturbances, said that Thunberg should be careful with the politicians she associates with because some of them took part and benefited from the system she is fighting to correct.

“You may want to be careful that you are not led astray by people who are a part of the problem, and it appears that this may be happening. Many of the powerful politicians that you met with and took photographs with, are deeply involved with many of the industries you speak out against,” the group said.

“For example, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who you recently met with, announced a plan to use money from oil pipelines to plant trees. This does not seem like much of a solution, as many of the native tribes in Canada, who are not very fond of Trudeau’s government, will still be forced off of their land, which they are taking good care of, to make room for dangerous pipelines that are prone to spilling,” they added.

In the end, Anonymous tells the young activist that if she is serious about saving the environment, she should be very careful about the people she meet and to assess each policy that she supports or rejects as there are so many ‘dangerous’ people that surrounds her who doesn’t have the environment’s health in their priority.
