JetBlue launches the “JetBlue Healthcare Hero” program, in which the airline is giving away 100,000 free flights (in pairs) to healthcare workers around the U.S. This program intends to alleviate the physical and psychological stress healthcare workers have faced in the hands of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“We applaud the healthcare workers who are helping us get through this challenging time and inspiring humanity along the way. This is an opportunity for us to fly it forward and show our appreciation for the heroic efforts of medical professionals, first responders, and public servants – not just here in our home of New York but around the country as well,” JetBlue says in a press release.
All healthcare workers are eligible to join the program. Customers can nominate the “healthcare hero” of their life by filling out this form. Nominations are open starting today until May 15, 2020.
To kickstart the program, JetBlue is donating 10,000 roundtrip flight certificates to healthcare workers at the Mount Sinai Health System, including their Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island campuses, as well as at NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public healthcare system in the United States with more than 70 locations across the city’s five boroughs.
JetBlue crewmembers will also have the chance to gift 23,000 flight certificates to their chosen healthcare worker.
And, to show JetBlue “applauds the efforts of healthcare and essential workers near and far,” three of its New York-themed liveries will fly at low altitude as a salute on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at 7 p.m. ET. The event’s flight route is posted below.
