Dive Brief:

  • After eliminating the COO position in 2018, Etsy on Tuesday announced that Raina Moskowitz will take on an expanded role as the company’s chief operating officer effective immediately, according to a company press release.
  • Moskowitz has been with Etsy since 2018 and most recently served as its chief operations, strategy and people officer. She will now take on payments and fulfillment operations and continue to oversee Etsy’s member services, trust and safety, strategy and operations, and impact teams.
  • Etsy also named Kim Seymour to the newly created position of chief human resources officer, effective April 26. She most recently worked as the chief people officer of WW International. Both Moskowitz and Seymour will report to CEO Josh Silverman.

Dive Insight:

Etsy decided not to fill the chief operating role in 2018 after then-COO Linda Findley Kozlowski decided to leave the company.

In Moskowitz’s newly expanded role, her mission is to develop Etsy’s strategy, oversee global marketplace services and “unlock new growth and revenue-driving opportunities,” according to a company release regarding her appointment.

“Raina’s expanded role will help us continue to deliver world-class customer experiences and cement Etsy as a trusted brand for our global community,” Silverman said in a statement. “She has championed some of our most critical initiatives through periods of unprecedented growth and change.”

Moskowitz has worked as Etsy’s chief operations, strategy and people officer since August 2020 and prior to that worked as the company’s senior vice president of people, strategy and services. Before her time at Etsy, Moskowitz spent 13 years at American Express where she held multiple leadership roles in product, strategy, operations and marketing and led the U.S. customer marketing team.

In its most recent earnings, Etsy reported a 16.5% increase in consolidated gross merchandise sales for Q4 and 16.2% year-over-year revenue growth.
